Caregiver Support Worker Foundations

Program Overview

The Caregiver Support Worker Foundations Certificate Program at Royal Metro College may be of interest to individuals who want to learn more about Caregiver Support Worker career paths; are currently working as a CSW without any qualifications; or to prepare for a more comprehensive training program.

The program/course work focuses on the role and responsibilities of being a Caregiver Support Worker; as well as some of the legislative, practical, legal and ethical issues facing support workers while providing general care to clients.

Key issues such as client demographics / needs are covered. As well, the program will provide general knowledge of how carers help clients manage the impact of age, disability, disease and injury.

Foundation communication skills are covered; along with future training options and career pathways.

  • High school graduation or equivalent (i.e.  GED)
  • At least 19 years of age.
  • Applicants must demonstrate English proficiency through with prior education in English at grade 10 level or higher or through an English language assessment (IELTS 5 or equivalent).

    • Create a StudentAid BC Account using a BC Services Card account as your digital ID. All applicants need to set up a BC Services Card account to access the student loan application via the StudentAid BC Dashboard.     • Choose the post-secondary school you want to attend and determine the study period (registration period) for which you need funding.
    • Check to make sure your school is designated for StudentAid BC funding.
